Reality Check

For this first week it's felt like one big party to me here. I'm high and happy and energetic on the steroids. I'm getting so much attention and love and care! We've received phone calls, food, e-mails, links to beautiful music, encouraging notes and e-mails. I feel like royalty being cared for and served from all sides! The other day I was saying, "This doesn't feel real. I have cancerous tumors growing in my brain! And here we are having such a wonderful and exciting time!" I feel so alive and in the moment. I haven't felt like this for a long time. And then all of a sudden we got to talking about our upcoming appointment with the oncologist for next Friday - Feb. 18th. At that time I was expecting to hear what they found in the biopsy and then what kind of treatment they recommend. All of a sudden I found out that that it could also be the time when the doctor gives a prognosis - as in, how long might I have to live! A few years, a few months, whatever.. Wow! Talk about a reality check! This is not just a big social party. This is for real! There is cancer growing in my brain right now. Phew! Some tears, some reasuring hugs and words. It's so great to be surrounded by family! Anyways, on with whatever. Deal with this one moment at a time....
