Learning to Achieve Balance?

Learning to achieve balance - that's what Alida prayed for me for the other night. to have the wisdom to know when it's OK to say, "No" because I can't handle that right now. It's easy to get swept up in the flow, even in my relatively quiet life here these days. I just love being in the middle of all the social action here! Being on steroids has given me an incredible boost of energy and enthusiasm and happiness - actually to the extent where I was hardly sleeping at all! It wasn't making me feel tired at all. I'd wake up at the 3 am "power hour" and dream, and write like crazy and couldn't stop (apparently this is where the term "steroid ideas" comes from). Anyway, I was hardly getting any sleep at all, which is not very helpful for healing, I imagine. So Gerard and I decided it would be best for both f us to keep to a regular schedule, especially for sleeping. With some sleeping pills from the oncologist, I am now gettig an excellent sleep each night. I'm also finding that I need to pace myself during the day. I can do lots of things and have visits and phone calls, but again (steroids?) get me so wired that I can't always concentrate. I have a hard time focussing sometimes and multi-tasking is just out!. I just stand there like a zombie wandering what's next or what I was doing. But when I take some quiet time, that passes and my mind clears again. Because of being on a more regular sleeping schedule, I starting to miss my quiet times of reflecting and writing i this blog. But I think I'm slowly moving towards acheiving a healthier balance, with others encouraging me to take the breaks I need, and it seems to be leveling off at a pretty good level now. Live and learn...
