Sorting through some Stuff

This is the day that the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118: 24

I hopefully still have a whole week of relatively good health and energy before my next round of chemo!  (The hospital seems like such a long time ago!)  So I was determined to make the most of it.  I had big (unrealistic) plans of making some trips, like going to visit my parents in Stratford, or going for a day trip somewhere else. Something exciting and away from the house.  HOWEVER.... I've had to scale down my expectations just a little and to set some more realistic goals.  Going from lying on the couch most of the day to out-of-town daytrips is quite a big jump.

Just going anywhere out of the house for a few hours is generally exciting and a good break from being home trying to pace myself by resting periodically thoughout the day.  Anyways, today we planned to go to the Sheridan garden centre.  Gerard decided to treat me to an iced cappicino at Tim Horton's first.  This was sure to make the outing exciting!  That was 10:30 am.  It is now 4:45 pm and I'm still too wired to lie down for a rest.  Oh well, it definitely feels great to have some of this artificial energy!

Just a few miscellaneous updates:

Our mini version of the Manitoba floods

Outside the herb barrel just outside our kitchen door is not draining for some reason.  We've never had this happen before.  At first we thought it was because there was still ice in the bottom, but that must be melted by now.  I had to rescue the parsley and basil plants because they were just drowning.  These are onions and I have lots of those, and the little plants are mint, which will survive anything, so they can stay.

pollen

One of the great things about the rain is that it's clearing the air, and everything else, of the pollen that's really been setting off people's allergies lately. On our walk last night we saw pollen, like in the picture above, washed up in many places. I've never seen that before.

Inside:  One of the things on my wish/to-do list for this high energy week is to get started on doing some sorting and de-cluttering. We started by moving some furniture around and preparing a room for Alida.  Gerard took this bed and desk apart and moved them into the garage for now.  They're ready to go down to Henry & Melanie's house.

I decided to tackle the box of random mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves that has been sitting in our front closet for years (just in case someone might need them someday)...

the drawer of pills, receipts, and notes on how to use these medications, ...

and all the plants that still have to go back outside after the winter.

By the time I had all of this stuff spread out on the kitchen and dining room tables, I was getting rather overwhelmed by it all.  It doesn't take much these days.  Gerard was noticing that I was multi-tasking, which doesn't really work for me anymore, at least not now, and so he moved the plants to the garage.  (We'll soon have to do some de-cluttering out there!  It's such a handy place to stash stuff.)  So that was one down, two to go.

By now everything is sorted and put away.  It feels great to have those things out of the way.  Slowly and surely I hope to work through and clear up some more of our "stuff".

Can't have a post without flowers.

Hi Ellie
Sounds like you have achieved a great deal! I learn so much from you on these blogs especially about plants, herbs etc - the pollen was amazing! I have bronchitis at the moment so I know where I will be spending the week-end. My love and blessings to you and Gerrard.
